Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Hydroseeding?
- Hydroseeding (or hydraulic mulch seeding, hydro-mulching, hydraseeding) is a planting process which utilizes a slurry of seed and mulch. The slurry is transported in a tank, either truck or trailer mounted, and sprayed over prepared ground in a uniform layer. Hydroseeding is an alternative to the traditional process of broadcasting, sowing dry seed, or laying expensive sod. It promotes quick germination and inhibits soil erosion. The paper fiber mulch in the hydroseed mixture helps maintain the moisture level of the seed and seedlings. The slurry has other components including fertilizer, tackifying agents, green dye, and other additives.
- How much do you charge per square foot?
- It depends! Pricing varies based on:
-
- Type of Grass Seed: We offer choice and flexibility to suit your needs. Sod gives instant gratification but limits you to the farm’s varieties—often struggling in high traffic, poor soils, or shade. DIY seed from big box stores? Usually poor for our region—think Western WA blends, not Eastern WA. Our top mixes include:
- Kentucky Bluegrass Elite Blend: Features Midnight, Famous, and Wild Horse Kentucky Bluegrass—great color, handles short mowing, disease-resistant.
- Sports Turf Mix: Wild Horse, Famous Kentucky Bluegrass, and Improved Perennial Ryegrass—fast-growing, cost-effective for larger areas.
- Custom Blends: From 100% Bluegrass or monocultures (e.g., Midnight, Sheep’s Fescue) to Bentgrass putting greens and wildflowers—lawn enthusiasts, we’ve got you.
- Economy Blends: Want nice green grass on a budget? We can work with that.
- Plus blends for high traffic, shade, sun/shade, pasture, and low maintenance—all top-grade, state-certified, source-identified seed compliant with WA laws.
- Location, Access, Water: We use trucks and tow-behind seeders, needing 100-200 feet of access. Fuel surcharges may apply for remote spots. Slow water sources take more time and can affect price.
- Size of Area: Small lawns (<1,000 sq ft) cost more per square foot than big projects (15+ acres).

- Will you come out and measure my lawn area for free, give me the total square footage, and a hydroseeding quote?
- We do free on-site quotes in the Yakima area and free phone estimates across Eastern WA. Outside Yakima, on-site quotes may have a fuel/time charge. Square footage info isn’t free anymore—people used our measurements for other methods—so it’s $75, deducted from your hydroseeding invoice if you choose us.
- How do I prep my soil for hydroseeding?
- Generally, all we need is a mostly dry, lightly raked surface. Things to consider:
-
- Soil Drainage: Poor drainage can lead to turf diseases and slow growth. Add organic material, aerate yearly, and use gypsum for clay soils.
- Weeds:
- Glyphosate (Original Round-Up): Kills weeds before planting—use 3 days prior, avoid MAX or Extended Control versions.
- 2,4-D/Triclopyr (Weed B Gon, Weed N Feed): Best after your lawn’s established—skip if overseeding, as it can harm germination.
- Always read herbicide labels!
- Note: Unprocessed steer manure brings weed seeds—cows don’t digest them. Irrigation water? Use a micro-filter to block weeds and clogs.
- Soil pH: Aim for 6.0-7.5 (Kentucky Bluegrass likes it). Grab a cheap pH test kit at hardware stores or send a sample to a lab for details.
- When should I start watering after initial hydroseed application?
- During spring and fall weather, it’s best to wait 24 hours. During the summer, you can wait overnight and start watering the next morning.
- I have grass growing, but there are circular areas everywhere that are not growing?
- Make sure your underground sprinkler nozzles are diffused enough so water reaches underneath them.
- Is it okay to walk on the hydroseed?
- Yes, as long as the soil isn’t over-saturated. If there’s mud, cut back your watering.
- I have a dog; when can I let it out on the lawn?
- Small dogs are fine, but for medium to large dogs, wait until after the first or second mowing.
- I clicked your navigation bar, and now I can’t read the link text! What gives?
- "Classic" HTML was big in the mid-1990s. Send website hyperlink complaints to our MySpace page.
- Are you an i502 company, and do you sell "awesome grass" bro?
- Smoking Kentucky Bluegrass could be harmful to your health and is not advised.
